Kids Sewing: Grades 4 & 5
Program Content:
Get creative and learn to sew in these fun, hands-on sewing classes designed just for kids! Participants will learn basic sewing skills while creating a finished project they can proudly use at home, school, or give as a gift. With step-by-step instruction and guidance from Recreation staff, participants will build confidence using a sewing machine while expressing their creativity through colorful fabric choices. No prior sewing experience is required. All sewing machines, tools, and fabrics will be provided.
Pillowcase Making Class
Fridays: September 18-October 16 Dismissal-5:00 PM
Participants will create their very own pillowcase using colorful fabrics. Sewers will learn basic skills including simple stitching, measuring fabric, following instructions, and assembling a finished project. At the end of the class, each participant will leave with a completed pillowcase.
Book Pocket Bag Class
Fridays: October 30-November 20 Dismissal-5:00 PM
Participants will create their own fabric book pocket bag featuring convenient pockets for storing notebooks, books, pencils, markers, journals, and other writing supplies. Sewers will practice simple stitching, measuring, and cutting fabric, following a pattern, and assembling a finished project. Each participant will leave with a completed book pocket bad that is perfect for carrying supplies at home, school, or on the go.
Transportation
Students will be picked up in the Recreation Van and transported to the Hyannis Youth & Community Center (HYCC).
Registration Information:
- Walk-in registration hours are Monday through Friday, 8:45 AM to 4:00 PM, at 141 Bassett Lane, Hyannis, MA 02601.
- Online registration is available beginning at 8:45 AM on the first day of registration for Resident and Non-Residents and ongoing until the program is full.

- Non-Residents - Wednesday, September 16, 2026
Requirements:
- All participants must be in grades 4&5.
- No prior sewing experience is required
- Participants should be comfortable using a sewing machine with staff instruction and supervision.
- Participants should bring a water bottle and a snack.
Fees:
Payment in full must be received prior to the start of the program. Financial Aid is available for qualified households. Forms are located on the Recreation/HYCC websites or at the front desk of the Hyannis Youth & Community Center.

Refund Policy:
Prior to the start of the program, refunds will be given minus a $10 Administration Fee. Refunds are not issued on or after the start of the program.
